Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, Who alone works wonders.
For You are great and do wondrous deeds; You alone are God.
Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples.
This is the LORD'S doing; It is marvelous in our eyes.
How often do we stop, think, and wonder about our world? Beautiful sunsets or majestic mountain peaks may cause us to stop and think. Loud thunder and lightning streaking across the sky may make us pause and watch for a few moments, but every cloud, blade of grass, and drop of rain should cause us to stop, think and praise our God. He is the God of Wonders!
As we start this new school year, I have lots of things that I am wondering about - lots of questions about how this year will go and what is the best way to start this year. Much of my summer reading and professional classes have focused on the importance of "Close Reading." It is important to stop and think about author's purpose in writing which will help students in their own writing and thinking. It is not only important to read closely books, but also songs, advertisements, and internet articles. However, as Christians, I think it is important to take "Close Reading" one step further. We need to look at our world through the lens of a Christian. What does God want us to think about?
One of my goals this year is to not only encourage students to stop, think, and wonder but also to act in a way that is pleasing to God. We will work hard at treating our classmates with respect. We will work to value and encourage those around us. We will take the time to notice the small things and appreciate all that God has blessed us with. We will be taking time to study our world in our Science lessons and the books that we read. We will be pausing and sharing our thinking in writing and devotion time. God has a plan for how this year will go. He knows about the ups and downs that we will face, and he is right there beside us. Please join me in praying for our class this year and take the time to praise God for his wonderful works.
O LORD, You are my God; I will exalt You, I will give thanks to Your name; For You have worked wonders, Plans formed long ago, with perfect faithfulness.
