I love it how God places different verses and experiences in our life just when we need them. Coincidence? I think not! I have read this Bible story many times; it is one of the stories we teach in third grade. Yet, I believe that God gave this verse back to me last week in my devotion time. The beginning of a school year is a very busy and stressful time. It is always an adjustment getting back to being a working mom and making plans for a new group of students. I am often overwhelmed at the beginning of a school year when I look ahead to all that needs to be accomplished. Ahead of me looms the "Red Sea" of another school year. I know that I can't go back, but I am not sure how to go forward. Then I hear God's voice telling me that he will fight for me. What do I need to do? Just be still. What an amazing promise.
Being still is not easy. It seems like I am always on the go, and the world around me goes even faster. It is hard to slow down. There is just too much to do. Yet, God's command is clear, simple, and reassuring. As I begin a new school year, I know that I have God by my side. I will do my part to model new reading habits and encourage new writing skills. I will teach new concepts in Science and challenge students to learn more about God's world, but I won't be doing it alone. The Lord is by my side. He fights for me and for you!
